Thanksgiving Bingo Games

 Thanksgiving Bingo Games

Thanksgiving is an annual harvest festival that is celebrated principally in the United States of America and Canada. Although the holiday may historically have had religious roots, today it is celebrated principally as a secular holiday. The exact origins of the holiday are subject to some debate - the traditional date of the "first thanksgiving" is 1621, and was supposed to have occurred on Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts, but it is actually known that the holiday was first celebrated as far back as 1565 in Saint Augustine Florida.

In Canada, Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the second Monday in October, and coincides with what is known in the United States as "Columbus Day".  In the United States, Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, and is held on the fourth Thursday in November.

Many activities are associated with the holiday, including a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. Additionally, families tend to come together,  and there are also parades and sports events which take place at this time of year. Thanksgiving is also an important opportunity for children to learn about history, and it is not at all uncommon for schools to hold Thanksgiving plays and other events.

One idea that might be fun, and indeed educational too for children, is a game of Thanksgiving bingo. This activity is actually ideal for the last day of school before the holiday, but can also be played in a family setting. Basically, this is the game adapted for children and themed around the holiday. Thanksgiving bingo is played just like standard bingo, but instead of using numbered bingo cards, you use bingo cards containing words or phrases relating to the holiday, such as "Turkey", "Pilgrim" or "Wampanoag."
